Allergies
treating with TCM
The number of allergy sufferers is increasing worldwide, which can be attributed in part to environmental factors and changing lifestyles. Air pollution, altered eating habits, and increased exposure to chemicals in everyday life can sensitize the immune system and increase susceptibility to allergies. Climate change-related factors, such as extended pollen seasons, can further exacerbate this trend.
Allergies can occur at any age and may change throughout a person’s life. While some individuals show the first symptoms as children, others develop allergic reactions only in adulthood.
Allergies are overreactions of the immune system to otherwise harmless substances such as pollen, dust mites, animal dander, or certain foods. The symptoms of an allergy manifest in various forms, such as allergic rhinitis (inflammation of the nasal mucosa), itchy or watery eyes, allergic asthma (breathing difficulties), and dermatitis (skin inflammation or rashes). In some cases, digestive problems or severe allergic reactions may occur. According to traditional Chinese medicine, a strong susceptibility to allergies is associated with a deficiency of healthy energy in the body and weakness in the spleen-stomach system.
Acupuncture can help balance the fullness of the upper respiratory tract and restore the normal function of the mucous membranes. Through medicinal therapy, healthy energy in the body can be strengthened, and thus the spleen-stomach system can be supported. The focus is often on strengthening the spleen Qi, kidney Qi, and lung Qi. Additionally, nutritional counseling can help identify foods that may promote allergies.
