Skin Diseases

treating with TCM

The skin is our largest organ and plays a central role as the body’s protective barrier. Skin diseases such as eczema, neurodermatitis, acne, psoriasis, or rosacea can not only be externally visible but also come with symptoms like itching, pain, or inflammation. While Western medicine often attributes inflammation and genetic factors as the cause, Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) views skin problems as an expression of an internal imbalance within the body.

In TCM, skin diseases are often attributed to disruptions in the flow of energy (Qi), moisture, heat, or toxin buildup. Depending on the type of skin disease, TCM distinguishes between different patterns, including “Damp Heat” – commonly seen in inflammatory skin conditions such as eczema or acne, manifesting as redness, swelling, and weeping skin areas, “Blood Heat” – which plays a role in conditions like psoriasis or neurodermatitis, characterized by dry, scaly skin with intense itching, and “Qi and Blood Stagnation” – which can worsen skin problems by hindering the skin’s regeneration and leading to chronic issues.

Emotional stress, as well as suppressed anger, can also disrupt the energy flow and manifest as skin problems.

In our clinic, we focus on a holistic treatment approach aimed at restoring the internal balance and strengthening the skin from within. This includes herbal therapy, which can have anti-inflammatory, detoxifying, or immune-regulating effects, acupuncture to unblock energy flow, reduce inflammation, and improve the skin’s metabolism, nutritional counseling (certain foods promote cooling and detoxifying the body, while others should be avoided), and Qigong.

We would be happy to advise you on your individual symptoms and the possible therapies.
