Overweight

treating with TCM

An excessive accumulation of body fat beyond normal levels can occur at any age and contribute to significant health complications, including respiratory issues, cardiovascular diseases, and gastrointestinal problems. Numerous studies have identified various risk factors, including genetics, dietary habits, and lifestyle.

An unhealthy diet high in fats and sugars, processed grains, and unhealthy snacks tends to be low in micronutrients and contributes to weight gain, insulin resistance, and inflammation. Additional lifestyle factors such as lack of physical activity and insufficient sleep are also well-known mechanisms that can lead to weight gain. Chronic stress is another key factor, as it can promote the release of cortisol. This hormone increases appetite and impairs the cells’ ability to absorb glucose.

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) has been used for centuries to treat a wide range of health conditions, including obesity. TCM takes a holistic view of well-being, viewing the body as a complex network of interconnected systems that can be influenced by both internal and external factors. In Chinese medicine, obesity is seen as a result of internal imbalances, such as the accumulation of Dampness and Phlegm, Qi stagnation, and weaknesses in the Pi (Spleen) and Wei (Stomach) systems.

After assessing an individual’s constitution and identifying potential underlying imbalances, a personalized treatment plan is developed. This plan may include a combination of acupuncture, herbal medicine, dietary changes, and lifestyle modifications. The goal is to restore balance and harmony in the body to promote optimal health and support sustainable weight loss.
