Post- & Long-Covid
treating with TCM
The Post- and Long-Covid Syndrome refers to a range of symptoms that persist for weeks or months in some individuals following an acute Covid-19 infection. These symptoms can occur regardless of the severity of the original illness, even in mild or asymptomatic cases. The most common symptoms include persistent fatigue, concentration difficulties (also known as “brain fog”), respiratory issues, headaches, joint and muscle pain, sleep disturbances, shortness of breath, and a loss of smell and taste. These symptoms can significantly impair quality of life and often lead to a prolonged recovery period.
The exact causes of Post- and Long-Covid Syndrome are not yet fully understood. The syndrome affects people of all age groups and may occur even after a mild illness. Patients frequently report prolonged exhaustion and mental impairment. In many cases, symptoms fluctuate and may worsen throughout the day or week.
The Covid-19 pandemic, which has spread worldwide in recent years, has fundamentally changed our lives and work, raising new awareness of the severity of respiratory viral infections. Among the various organs in the human body, the respiratory system is most frequently in contact with the external environment and has a large surface area. Respiratory diseases are becoming increasingly dangerous to humanity due to air pollution, smoking, and an aging population. Therefore, prevention and early treatment of respiratory diseases are particularly important.
Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) has a history of thousands of years in the treatment of respiratory illnesses and has accumulated rich theories, clinical experience, and unique treatments from our ancestors. In TCM, the lungs govern Qi and breathing. By regulating Lung-Qi, the intake and release of Qi is improved, and the body’s immune system is strengthened. Winter and spring are seasons when respiratory illnesses are particularly common. TCM can help regulate body temperature, relieve symptoms of cough and asthma, and aid in the prevention and treatment of severe pneumonia.
In TCM, it is said: “Treat the symptoms when the disease is urgent, and treat the root cause when the disease is chronic.” → 急则治其标, 缓则治其本
TCM uses a combination of acupuncture, moxibustion, and herbal medicine to strengthen the immune system and support lung function. The goal is to promote the body’s self-healing powers and restore the balance of Qi and blood.
